About Dr. Hughes

Thomas Hughes, MD, brings nearly three decades of experience to his role at Tidewater Neurology, which has locations in Mt. Pleasant, Goose Creek, and the West Ashley area of Charleston, South Carolina. He’s amassed an impressive body of knowledge of neurological conditions and is an outstanding diagnostician. 

 

Dr. Hughes began his education journey at the University of Georgia in Athens before earning his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He refined his skills and training in neurology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. 

 

A Mt. Pleasant native, Dr. Hughes returned home to build his practice. Over the years, he’s helped hundreds of patients achieve improved function and increased independence. 

 

Dr. Hughes understands the value of personalized care. He takes the time to get to know those who entrust him with their health and wellness and ensures patients always have the details needed to make informed decisions about their treatment plan. 

 

The field of neurology has gone through astounding changes over the years, and Dr. Hughes dedicates himself to remaining on the cutting edge of advancements in diagnostic and treatment technology. He seeks out continuing education opportunities to expand his skills and knowledge.

About Dr. Bolen

Dr. Bolen was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, attended Clemson University for his undergraduate education, then moved to Charleston to attend medical school at MUSC. He completed his residency training in Neurology at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

 

He then returned to Charleston to complete a Neurophysiology fellowship at MUSC before joining Tidewater Neurology in 2016. He lives with his wife, daughter, and son on James Island. Dr. Bolen evaluates and manages all types of neurologic diseases, but has special interest in seizures and headache disorders. 

About Heather Norton, ACNP-BC

Born and raised in Powder Springs, Georgia, Heather attended Georgia Southern University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. While working as a Registered Nurse in the ICU at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, she earned her Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Master’s Degree from Emory University. Heather spent her early years a Nurse Practitioner in the field of Cardiology, and later returned to Emory Hospital to work in the Neuroscience ICU. In 2014 Heather moved to Charleston, SC with her husband and two daughters where she continued her career as a Nurse Practitioner at MUSC in the Neuroscience ICU until joining Tidewater Neurology in 2019. Heather and her family live on Daniel Island.

About Kendall Bowler, FNP-C

Born and raised in Asheboro, NC. Kendall attended the Medical University of South Carolina where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. While working as a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal ICU and the Prep and Recovery Unit at Shawn Jenkins Childrens Hospital, she earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the Medical University of South Carolina and is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She has been in Charleston, SC since 2012 and currently lives in Summerville, SC with her husband and son.

About Kate Scott, PA-C

Born and raised in Louisville, KY, Kate attended the University of Kentucky where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She worked as a CNA before starting PA school. She completed her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky. She moved to Charleston in August 2023.

About Kaitlin Roper, PA

Kaitlin, a Charleston native, attended Clemson University for her undergraduate education in Biological Sciences. She worked as a Patient Care Technician prior to completing a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at MUSC. She now resides in Downtown Charleston with her husband.
